In 2000 Sky Crompton completed the 1-Year Film Production course at the New York Film Academy. Since her time at NYFA, Sky has relocated to Melbourne Australia, and for the last decade has worked as an Executive Producer for Gung Ho Productions. While overseeing project development, financing and the production of quality materials, Sky has continued on and produced, directed and wrote for herself.
In 2008 Sky completed CITIZEN JIA LI, an 80 minute feature depicting the life of a new Australian immigrant. As Sky told us, When Jia [Chun Kee Claudia Teh] loses both her job and home in the one day, her dreams unravel unexpectedly. Over three days she struggles against fears and enemies to find her identity, supported by Daisy [Susanna Qian], a half Chinese-half Japanese Harajuku girl, who is coming to terms with her own mixed parentage. Jia’s triad ex, Kong [Chris Pang], attempts to get her back, to save face, and searches Melbourne for her – possibly out of genuine love.
Sky defines the different themes many immigrants go through: defeat, triumph, diversity, communication and language barriers, loneliness and the longing for ones native home.
